Henrico showing documentary film ‘Speaking Through Me’ in honor of National Prevention Week

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County is showing the documentary film “Speaking Through Me” during a teen-focused event on Monday afternoon, coinciding with National Prevention Week.

The event, "The Power of Possibility: Speaking through our Stories," will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 12, at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road.

The event will include a resource and vendor fair, along with a panel discussion that will follow the showing of "Speaking Through Me.”

"The 35-minute film aims to help adolescent children understand their developing brains, how addiction starts and how they can protect themselves through self-compassion and mindfulness," the website said.

The film was produced by the Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery at Vanderbilt University and is geared toward kids aged 13 and younger.

The event will include refreshments and free instruction on Narcan administration.

National Prevention Week runs from May 11 to May 17.
