Henrico welcomes 20 new firefighters, celebrates 13 promotions

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- In a ceremony held at Henrico Theatre Thursday night, the county's fire department welcomed a dozen graduates of Recruit Academy 83 and celebrated 13 promotions.

During a ceremony at Henrico Theatre on Thursday, March 6, 20 firefighters were honored for graduating from Recruit Academy 83. The Henrico County Division of Fire also recognized the achievements and promotions of several active members.

“I’m grateful to our 20 newest firefighters for choosing service above self,” said Fire Chief Jackson Baynard. “Congratulations on completing 30 weeks of rigorous training and welcome to the Henrico Fire Family.”

Many members received career achievement awards, including firefighter David Clark and Captain Clint Wyatt.

Clark was the recipient of the 2023 Wayne Greenwood Mentorship Award, which is given to a firefighter who demonstrates outstanding qualities of informal leadership during their career. Wyatt earned the 2023 Michael Holder Leadership Award, which highlights an individual who showcases outstanding qualities of formal leadership.

Several others were also recognized for their recent promotions, including assistant chief Bryce Grissom, battalion chief Zach Zellner and civilian payroll manager LaToya Brathwaite.
