Henrico woman charged with assault, strangulation after altercation with student

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An instructional assistant at the Advanced Career Education (ACE) Center at Virginia Randolph has been charged with assault and strangulation after an altercation involving a student.

A Henrico Police School Resource Officer was notified by administrators at The Academy at Virginia Randolph on Wednesday, Jan. 21, of an altercation that happened between a student and a staff member of the ACE Center, which is located on The Academy's campus.

According to the Henrico County Police Division, 36-year-old Erin Seville Travers allegedly assaulted a student, resulting in several students and staff members having to separate them.

A follow-up investigation was then conducted by the special victims unit and, after consultation with the Henrico County Commonwealth Attorney's Office, Travers was charged with assault and strangulation.

Per court records, Travers was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 28, and is facing one felony charge of strangulation and a criminal misdemeanor charge of assault and battery.

A spokesperson with Henrico County Public Schools told 8News that Travers is currently on administrative leave.
