Hermitage High School on lockdown due to report of armed person

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hermitage High School is on lockdown Thursday afternoon due to a report of an "armed person" in the area, according to Henrico County Police Division.

A spokesperson with Henrico County Public Schools told 8News that student dismissal has since been delayed, and that police are investigating a report of an unauthorized person on or near campus.

Authorities said they were called to an area off Staples Mill Road and Lucas Road for a report of an armed person, per a Henrico County Police Division spokesperson.

"Officers immediately began searching the area, but have since cleared up as there is no longer believed to be a threat to the community," the spokesperson said.

Police will assist Henrico Schools with the dismissal of Hermitage High School.
