Hopewell upgrades sewer and trash billing system

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- Residents from the City of Hopewell should expect upgrades to the sewer and trash billing system, beginning in September.

The city announced the new improvements on Thursday, Aug. 21, saying that they are "designed to make account management easier and more convenient for our residents and business owners," according to a release.

Starting in September, the city and Minol USA, a billing provider, will partner to handle statement generation, payment processing and customer support services.

The transition will deliver several benefits to city residents, including enhanced customer service, improved payment flexibility and a modernized online portal for account access.

“We are excited to offer residents and businesses expanded payment options and improved support services,” city officials said. “These updates are part of our ongoing commitment to provide quality service and make account management easier and more efficient."

The city emphasized that some of the key benefits of the new system will be enhanced payment options, improved customer support and modernized online access.

The changes aim to enhance the customer experience, officials said. The following is what residents can expect during the upcoming transition:

  • New Account Numbers: Customers will receive a new account number with their first statement.
  • Statement Updates: Billing statements will have a new look and may arrive at a slightly
different time of month (a one-time adjustment). An informational insert will be included
    with your first bill.
  • Storm Water Fees: Storm Water charges will no longer appear on your sewer and trash
bill. Instead, they will be listed separately on your Real Estate tax bill.
  • Account Balances: Any outstanding balance or credit will automatically transfer to your
new account. All previously billed amounts remain due, and delinquent accounts are still
subject to water disconnection by American Water.

Minol USA will send letters to customers explaining the benefits and how it will streamline the service in more detail soon, according to the city.
