Hundreds receive Petersburg tax bills that aren’t theirs
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Hundreds of people received Petersburg real estate tax bills that aren't theirs, the city said.
On Wednesday, May 7, the city announced that an error in the fourth-quarter tax bill issuing process resulted in about 500 bills being sent to the wrong people.
These bills erroneously went to former property owners who sold their respective properties during the 2024 fiscal year, rather than the properties' current owners.
"This error occurred because Customer Care and Collection used an incorrect file instead of the updated correct file provided to that department by the Commissioner of the Revenue," the city said.
If you received a bill in error, do not pay it. New bills will be sent out as necessary to those impacted on May 15.
