I-64 West reopened in New Kent after deadly crash

(WRIC) -- All westbound travel lanes were closed on a section of Interstate 64 in New Kent County on Friday due to a deadly single-vehicle crash that struck a tree. At around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reported that all westbound travel lanes of I-64 in New Kent County were closed near New Kent Highway due to a crash. According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash at around 11 a.m. where a vehicle struck a tree and then caught on fire. State police said the tree fell across all westbound lanes of I-64 and part of eastbound. State police confirmed two people were killed in the crash. Troopers are working to identify the victims and notify the next of kin. According to VDOT, there were about 8 miles of backups with traffic being detoured off Exit 211.
