Icy roads possible Wednesday morning, VDOT warns

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has warned of possible icy roads Wednesday morning.

With the pavement's temperature dropping overnight on Tuesday, Dec. 9, VDOT is warning drivers to watch out for wet roads to freeze over into Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Motorists should expect icy roads, bridges and overpasses until temperatures rise. Consider adding extra time to travel during the early morning.

Now that interstates and primary roads have been cleared, VDOT is focusing on secondary roadways and neighborhood streets.

The department will be monitoring the weather and road conditions throughout Tuesday night to apply treatments such as salt and abrasives to the roads.
