CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An injured hiker on Old Rag Mountain in Madison County was rescued by Chesterfield County crews part of Med-Flight on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, July 16, Chesterfield firefighter-paramedics part of the Med-Flight program were called to help rescue an injured hiker at Shenandoah National Park.

According to authorities, the hiker had a shoulder injury while hiking one of the trails on Old Rag Mountain.

Due to the difficult terrain, Chesterfield Fire and EMS said that a helicopter was "the best way to reach that person and bring them to safety."

After being notified by National Park Service (NPS) officials and arriving on scene, one of the Chesterfield firefighters was lowered to the ground, where the victim was then secured and hoisted to Med-Flight.

The patient was then flown to the mountain's base, where they were taken to an area hospital by a local emergency response crew.

This marks the second rescue on the mountain, after Mid-Flight performed a similar rescue at Shenandoah National Park on April 1.
