Inside look at LEGO brick exhibition coming to Virginia Museum of History & Culture in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A LEGO exhibition featuring a million LEGO bricks is coming to the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) in Richmond on Saturday, and 8News got an inside look at what attendees can expect. The "Traveling Bricks" exhibition will open at VMHC on Saturday, Oct. 19 and showcase LEGO models of land, air, sea and space vehicles constructed from nearly one million LEGO bricks. According to Julie Kemper, curator at VMHC, the "Traveling Bricks" exhibit will include about 118 models that are a part of the traveling exhibit, with some additional models made by Virginians, such as a model of the Kline Kar located in the museum's Commonwealth Hall. Kemper said in addition to the LEGO models, there will be an activity area with 200,000 LEGO bricks for attendees to build their own creations, as well as an area to display them. "Creativity and inspiration is a big part of what we get to experience in this exhibit," Kemper said. "We really want kids to know that there is no wrong way to build something out of LEGO bricks." "[The facility] is still in the works, but they'll actually be producing LEGO bricks," Kemper said. "And so it just seemed like a great time to look at Virginia's manufacturing history, transportation history and just the fun of LEGO bricks." The exhibit will be open from Saturday, Oct. 19 through Jan. 5, 2025 with a variety of programs. For more information about the exhibition, visit VMHC's website.
