James River float times released for tubing, canoeing
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- As temperatures rise, Goochland County has released a list of float routes people can take along the James River by tube or canoe.
The county listed four float routes people can take along stretches of the James River, as well as the approximate distance and the amount of time people should set aside for each. Those are as follows:
- Columbia to Cartersville -- around 9.5 miles
- Canoe: 5 to 6 hours
- Tubes: 8 to 9 hours
- Cartersville to Westview -- around 5 miles
- Canoe: 2 to 3 hours
- Tubes: 4 to 5 hours
- Westview to Maidens -- around 12 miles
- Canoe: 8 to 9 hours
- Tubes: 11 to 12 hours
- Powhatan State Park to Maidens -- around 6 miles
- Canoe: 2 to 3 hours
- Tubes: 3 to 4 hours
It was emphasized by the county that times and distances can change depending on how high or low the river's water levels are.
