Jay Jones to take on Jason Miyares in Virginia attorney general race
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Former state delegate Jay Jones is set to be the Virginia Democrats' candidate for attorney general, according to the Associated Press.
On Tuesday, June 17, Virginians took to the polls to choose the Democratic nominee for November's attorney general race. The Republican nominees for all three of Virginia’s major statewide offices have already been chosen.
Jones and his opponent, Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor, tried to win Virginians' support at the ballot box.
Jones and Taylor spent much of the night neck-and-neck as results came in. As of the time of reporting, Jones has secured 51.01% of the vote, putting him ahead of Taylor, who has 48.99% of the vote.
Jones previously represented Norfolk in the House of Delegates from 2018 to 2021. He also previously served as Assistant Attorney General. He is a Virginia native and the descendant of enslaved Black Americans.
