Kensington Avenue residents report ‘discolored water’ after overnight water main break

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Some residents living in Richmond's Kensington Avenue area have noticed "discolored water" on Tuesday after an overnight water main break.

The morning of Tuesday, Sept. 23, the city's Department of Public Utilities (DPU) announced it received reports from residents who noticed "discolored water" in the Kensington Avenue area following a main break in the evening of Monday, Sept. 22.

The department said city crews are actively flushing hydrants to resolve the issue as of Tuesday morning.

Residents may also flush their lines by running cold water for several minutes until the water runs clean.

"Water main breaks can affect water pressure which may result in discolored water," the department said.
