King and Queen farm invites public to farm’s first open house

KING AND QUEEN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A King and Queen County farm dedicated to supporting people with dementia and teens with autism is inviting the public to the farm for the very first time this October, with a special fall open house.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, the Fox Moon Farm Project will be holding an open-house style event at the Fox Moon Farm in St. Stephen's Church, aiming to build community and awareness about its mission to get children with special needs or trauma out in nature.

The open house also marks its first event open to the public, according to a release from the organization.

“We’ve increasingly had folks asking if they could come out to the farm and meet our horses and other animals. They are also interested in learning more about our programs and the work we do. So, what better way than to open the farm and have a party! “ said Cindy Freishtat, the Co-Executive Director of the nonprofit. “Our mission is to promote healing by encouraging others to find joy in being out in nature and spending time with our animals. The public will now be able to see that for themselves and understand why we do what we do.”

The open house will reportedly include family-friendly activities, including hayride, photo shoots with their horses and mini donkeys, a kiddy hay maze and pumpkin and face painting. Attendees will also experience a live performance from local band Craigslist Jerry from 3 to 5 p.m., with an open mic available for those looking to get on stage.

The Fox Moon Farm Project will also host its third session of their family support program -- a six-month program, which aims to provide emotional and informational support for families of children who have special needs and complex trauma.

President and CEO of the Faison Center, Brian McCann, will be speaking and answering questions from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday by the lake.
