Kingsnake found stuck in netting in Henrico taken to Wildlife Center of Virginia

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Wildlife Center of Virginia is caring for an eastern kingsnake after it was found stuck in landscape netting in Henrico County.

On Monday, April 7, the wildlife center took to Facebook to share the story of an eastern kingsnake currently in its staff's care.

The eastern kingsnake is one of many kinds of snakes that you can find across Virginia. This species is nonvenomous -- as all but three of Virginia's snake species are -- and can be spotted throughout Central Virginia.

Per the Wildlife Center of Virginia, this eastern kingsnake was found tangled in landscape netting in Henrico County. Its rescuers noticed the juvenile snake had "several injuries" after they got it free of the netting, so they brought it to the wildlife center for treatment.

According to the wildlife center, snakes -- as well as other wild animals -- commonly find themselves tangled in landscape netting.

"Once an animal starts to become tangled, they struggle to free themselves, which only leads to further constriction and entanglement," the wildlife center said. "If not saved, it can lead to prolonged suffering and eventually death."

The Wildlife Center of Virginia encourages caution and care when using landscape netting. If you do choose to use it, check it once a day. This will allow you to get help for any animals that become trapped as quickly as possible.
