Lanes were closed on I-64 West in Goochland due to overturned tractor-trailer carrying gasoline

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- All westbound travel lanes on a section of Interstate 64 in Goochland County were closed due to an overturned tractor-trailer on Saturday morning. At around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, the Virginia Department of Transportation reported that all westbound travel lanes on I-64 in Goochland County near Oilville Road were closed due to an overturned tractor-trailer. At around 9 a.m., the department said the travel lanes are expected to be closed for an extended period of time with traffic being diverted off I-64 West at Exit 173. The tractor-trailer was reportedly hauling gasoline, which spilled onto the road following the crash and caused the road to be closed for an extended time as crews began clean up. Goochland County Fire and Rescue reported that the truck was carrying 6,000 gallons of fuel, and at around 6 a.m. on Saturday, there was no fuel leaking from the truck. State police said the driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. At around 2:30 p.m., the scene was reported clear and all lanes were reopened to traffic. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, drivers should seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
