Last days to visit State Fair of Virginia are this weekend

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The State Fair of Virginia will be closing its gates after this Sunday, Oct. 5th, but until then, they have a full schedule of fun to enjoy.
The entertainment slate includes heavy metal band Quiet Riot on Friday, the Australian Bee Gees on Saturday, and to close out the fair, Grammy award-winning country band Diamond Rio on Sunday.
For those hoping to see some farm animals, don't miss the Mutton Bustin' on Saturday, featuring youth trying to hang on as long as they can to racing sheep. Sunday is 'Alpaca Days,' where you can learn all about the fuzzy animals and the products made from them.
Whichever day you choose to visit, you can always enjoy some classic fair food from staple vendors like Pelican Joe's Donuts. The stand celebrates its 20th birthday this year.
The pumpkins and vegetables, like those seen below, will also be on display all weekend.

"This continues about a 50 year tradition at the state fair," said Paul Benenati. "The donuts are made with soy and wheat flour, and they're cooked in soybean oil, which are Virginia products."
The stand has been operating even before the fair found its current home at the Meadow Event Park. For many, the best part of coming back to the fair is keeping a tradition alive.
"We would have people come to us and they would bring their children," said Teri Phillips with Pelican Joe's. "Year after year, they would come. And then we started noticing that their children were bringing their children. And it is just so cool."
