Library of Virginia to host Black History Month Celebration to kickoff new series

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Library of Virginia is set to launch a new Culturescape Saturdays Series, beginning with a Black History Month Celebration Kickoff.

The free event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 31 from noon to 3 p.m. at the library, located at 800 E. Broad St., and aims to showcase Black artists and storytellers.

The event will include:

  • A pop-up exhibition highlighting works by local Black artists
  • A genealogical "show-and-tell" presentation
  • Guided tours of the library's current exhibition, "House to Highway: Reclaiming a Community History"
  • Resource sharing from community partners
  • Reference and genealogical assistance

The Culturescape Saturdays Series examines the crossroads of art, culture, history and community across the commonwealth.
