LIST: Holiday 2024 events in Richmond’s Downtown area

RICHMON, Va. (WRIC) -- Celebrate the holiday season in Downtown Richmond! From enjoying the skyline view to the Christmas Parade, featuring many floats and holiday characters, there's a variety of events for all to enjoy.

Venture Richmond has released an exciting line up of holiday events happening in November and December in Downtown Richmond.

A Shockoe Sessions Live! Christmas at the Hippodrome

• Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
• Located at The Hippodrome Theatre, 528 N. 2nd Street
• Join Shockoe Records for a Christmas party like no other. In support of Richmond Animal League, this concert will bring some of your favorite holiday hits from a variety of musical genres. Tickets begin at $25.

A Christmas Carol Afternoon Tea Experience with the Queen's Library Tea Room

• Tuesday, Dec. 3 through Monday, Dec. 23 -- various dates and times
• Located at The Queen's Library Tea Room, 221 E. Clay Street
• Enjoy a unique tea experience in a historic setting from 100 years ago, featuring treats and British holiday tea. The celebration will also include a reading of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Tickets start at $75 and can be purchased here.

RVA Illuminates

• Friday, Dec. 6 -- from 4 to 7 p.m.
• Located at Kanawha Plaza, 701 E. Canal Street
• Celebrate the countdown of the tree lighting and Downtown skyline illumination with 8News -- featuring live musical performances, food trucks with holiday treats and more. This celebration is a free and family-friendly event, click here for more information.

RVA First Friday

• Friday, Dec. 6 -- from 5 to 7 p.m.
• Downtown Richmond's Art District
• Get into the holiday spirit at December's First Friday event, which will highlight local art galleries, shops, restaurants, etc. The event is free, more information can be found here.

Dominion Energy Christmas Parade

• Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.
• Begins at the Science Museum of Virginia, traveling along East Broad Street, ending at 7th Street.
• Enjoy one of Richmond's annual holiday traditions, The Dominion Energy Christmas Parade. You don't want to miss this year's festivities -- displaying an array of creative balloons and floats, marching bands and your favorite holiday characters. This is a free event for the whole family.

Holidaze Market at Gallery5

• Saturday, Dec. 7 -- 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Located at Gallery5, 200 W. Marshall Street
• Come out for an afternoon of shopping with RVA Krampus. The event will showcase unique handmade creation from local artisans and business owners. The event is free, more information can be found here.

Holiday Cheers Block Party by Richmond Makers Market

• Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8 -- noon to 6 p.m.
• Located at Basic Beer Co., 212 W. 6th Street
• This holiday extravaganza will feature over 35 local makers of products from candles, to clothes, to jewelry and art. The event is free.

Richmond Ballet: The Nutcracker

• Saturday, Dec. 7 through Monday, Dec. 23 -- various times
• Located at Dominion Energy Center, 600 E. Grace Street
• Celebrate with Richmond Ballet for the 18th year of the Christmas classic, The Nutcracker. Featuring the Richmond Symphony and choreography from Stoner Winslett. Tickets begin at $25.

Winter Wander: Court End at the Valentine

• Sunday, Dec. 8 -- noon to 4 p.m.
• Located at The Valentine, 1015 E. Clay Street
• Enjoy hot beverages, live music, family-friendly crafts and activities at The Valentine. Guests will have the opportunity to take a self-guided tour of the historical Court End neighborhood and take a shuttle to multiple cultural sites and museums. Candlelight: Christmas Carols on Strings

• Thursday, Dec. 12 and Friday, Dec. 20 -- varying times
• Located at Bolling Haxall House, 211 E. Franklin Street
• Experience the sound of holiday classics from the Listeso String Quartet in a historical setting. Tickets for this unique candlelight experience begins at $24.

Holiday Villages, hosted by Richmond Night Market

• Saturday, Dec. 14 -- noon to 8 p.m.
• Holiday Villages, presented by Richmond Night Market, is a holiday shopping experience showcasing local art, crafts, goods and music from local vendors and artisans. The event is free, click here for more information.

Annual Boat Parade of Lights

• Saturday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m.
• Begins at the City of Richmond's Intermediate Terminal, 3101 Wharf Street
• Every year, multiple owners decorate their boats with colorful light displays and meet along the James River, from the Downtown riverfront to Rockett's Landing for a parade. The event is free and will take place rain or shine, more information can be found here.

Candlelight: Holiday Special Featuring the Nutcracker and More!

• Thursday, Dec. 19 -- times will vary
• Located at Bolling Haxall House, 211 E. Franklin Street
• Enjoy a candlelight concert featuring holiday music with a gentle flow at the Bolling Haxall House. Tickets begin at $24.

Winter Moon Market

• Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22 -- noon to 5 p.m.
• Located at Stone Brewing, 4300 Williamsburg Avenue
• Come experience an "enchanted" Richmond market with a holiday twist -- featuring vendors with a variety of goods from wellness products, to candles, to crystals and plenty more. The event is free, check here for more information.

Santa Visit at Tredegar

• Saturday, Dec. 21 -- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Located at the American Civil War Museum, 480 Tredegar Street
• Santa Claus will be making a stop at the American Civil War Museum -- families can meet Santa, enjoy holiday crafts and hot chocolate. This is a free family-friendly event, visit the museum's website for more information.
