Local veteran’s widow receives free roofing installation

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- As part of RETEX's 2025 Roof For A Veteran initiative, a local widow whose late husband served in the U.S. military received a free roofing installation on Monday.

Carol Coleman's new roof was installed free of charge on Monday, Nov. 10 -- just in time for Veterans Day -- and a little over a year after her husband passed away unexpectedly from cancer in September 2024.

RETEX Roofing & Exteriors hosts their Roof For A Veteran campaign each year, inviting members of the community to nominate a local veteran or veteran's family to receive a free roof installation if they are currently unable to afford one.

"My heart is full," said Coleman after receiving the call from RETEX about her
selection for a roof replacement. “When I got the call from RETEX, I couldn’t believe it."

As a result of her husband's cancer, Coleman had to put her career on hold and ended up caring for him full-time, eventually facing financial challenges and a roof replacement requirement from her insurance company.

The Roof For A Veteran program will continue in 2026, and people can click here to submit nominations starting early next year.
