Louisa animal shelter at ‘critically full capacity,’ officials seek homes for pets

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Louisa County's animal shelter is at a "critically full capacity," with staff asking the community for help in taking in a furry friend.
On Friday, July 25, the animal shelter announced that the shelter is at "critically full capacity," and asked the community for help to foster, adopt and retrieve lost animals.
"Without space available for any incoming strays, Louisa County is offering free adoptions on all animals," the shelter wrote.

If you are interested in considering pet adoption, the shelter is inviting the public to meet the animals at 18 Sacred Heart Avenue in Mineral, from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
“In the past, it was standard practice for lost pets to be brought into the Shelter,” officials said. “However, it is now known animals have a much better chance of getting back home if some actions are taken in the neighborhoods where they’re found, before they are brought to a shelter.”
Pet owners missing an animal should click here or contact 540-894-4219 to arrange for pick up.
The shelter said those who can no longer keep their animal are encouraged to find a new home for them. Multiple sites can help you with this process, including Rehome.adoptapet.com, Getyourpet.com, Rehomeyourpets.com and Home-Home.org, per the animal shelter.
