Louisa County Sheriff’s Office to host 5K for K-9 Unit
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Louisa County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) will be hosting a 5K at the end of May to help raise funds for its K-9 Unit.
This Annual K-9 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, May 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the Spring Creek Sports Center in Zion Crossroads.
The event is dog-friendly and family-friendly, offering activities for everyone, including music, awards and live K-9 demonstrations. Additionally, each person who registers to participate will get a $20 gift card to Papa Jim Soft Serve in Palmyra.
All proceeds raised during the event will go towards the LCSO K-9 Unit, which is funded solely through donations, according to the sheriff's office.
Donations help with feeding, training, medical care and equipment for the trained dogs -- who aid the community through search-and-rescue, officer protection and narcotics detention.
“Our K-9s are more than just dogs — they’re our partners in the field,” said Sheriff Donald Lowe. “Every participant helps us keep these incredible animals healthy, ready and available to serve our community.”
