Man arrested, charged after 3-year-old boy shoots self with gun in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been arrested and charged in connection to the death of a 3-year-old boy, who officials said shot himself with a gun at a Chesterfield residence on Thursday.
According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, 37-year-old Jeffrey R. Greene was arrested and charged with felony child neglect and allowing a child access to a firearm in connection to the death of a 3-year-old boy who was shot on Avalon Heights Road on Thursday, May 1.
At around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Chesterfield police responded to the 2800 block of Avalon Heights Road for the report of a person shot.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a 3-year-old boy shot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity is being withheld under Virginia code § 19.2-11.2.

According to police, the investigation indicates that the 3-year-old boy was handling the firearm when he shot himself.
The owner of the firearm, identified as Greene, was arrested. Police said Greene lives at the residence on Avalon Heights Road and knew the child, but they were not related.
