Man arrested in Petersburg after vehicle break-ins
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A man was arrested on Wednesday after items were found to be stolen out of multiple vehicles in Petersburg.
According to the Petersburg Bureau of Police, officers responded to a report of a "suspicious person in the area" at 3:47 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, in the 900 block of E. Wythe Street.
Once on scene, they saw a man -- later identified as 53-year-old Stephen Kelley -- who had dropped a bag next to several vehicles and proceeded to flee. Officers then searched the area, found Kelley and detained him.
When officers looked inside the bag, they found "items that were taken during the incident," according to police.
Kelley is being held at Riverside Regional Jail with no bond, and currently faces charges of felony entering a vehicle with intent to commit larceny, misdemeanor petit larceny and being drunk in public.
