RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A man was killed this morning on Chamberlayne Avenue after a vehicle sped off the road and eventually hit a building.
According to the Richmond Police Department (RPD), the crash happened on Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. when a driver veered off the road in the 2300 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, killing a pedestrian and hitting a building.
The driver and the passenger involved were both taken to the hospital and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police shut down Chamberlayne Avenue as officers initially investigated the scene. The roadway has since been reopened.
Given the extent of the damage to the involved building, detectives will be looking to see if speed was a factor.

James Mercante, Director of Public Affairs at RPD, also provided some tips on how pedestrians can keep themselves safe while walking along busy roads.
"Keep an eye on traffic, keep an eye on those crosswalks, wear visible clothing, don't be distracted when you're walking and be alert," Mercante said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Investigator G. Drago at 804-646-1369.
