Man dead after vehicle crashes into several trees, overturns in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 30-year-old man is dead after his vehicle crashed into several trees, causing it to overturn and lay on its roof in Brunswick County early Saturday morning.

At around 12:44 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, Virginia State Police responded to the 1400 block of Old Stage Road, north of Aurelia Place, for a single-vehicle crash.

When troopers arrived on scene, they found a 2018 Infinity lying on its roof with the driver unresponsive.

According to state police, a preliminary investigation indicated that the driver, identified as 30-year-old Derrond Tyree Vaughan, was traveling southbound on Old Stage Road when he crossed the centerline, drove off the roadway and hit several trees.

Authorities said the vehicle then overturned and rested on its rooftop upon hitting the trees.

According to officials, speed was a contributing factor to the crash.

State police said Vaughan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died upon impact.
