Man give thanks to Hanover first responders who helped save his life

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- On Tuesday, in a beautiful moment of gratitude, a man reunited with the Hanover County first responders who helped save his life in late April.

On Saturday, April 26, crews with the Hanover County Fire-EMS Department responded to a report of a cardiac arrest.

When they arrived, they found that the patient's family had already begun CPR. First responders took over and provided additional medical intervention to the patient.

Months later, on Tuesday, July 15, the patient and his family paid a visit to those first responders.

"In a heartfelt moment, the patient presented Heart Saver Awards to the crews and fittingly included his wife, whose swift decision to begin CPR and call 911 made all the difference," the department said.

Those gathered then had lunch together, during which they "celebrat[ed] the power of teamwork, training and community."
