Man seriously hurt after early morning fire started on back deck of Chesterfield home

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been seriously hurt after an early morning fire started on the back deck of a Chesterfield County home on Saturday.

At around midnight on Saturday, Oct. 4, crews with Chesterfield Fire and EMS responded to a call for a house fire in the 13300 block of Bailey Bridge Road.

The first fighters that arrived on scene found heavy fire in the home.

According to Chesterfield Fire and EMS, one man was inside the house at the time of the fire and was able to get out before the firefighters arrived on scene. He was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, but as of about 10:50 a.m., he remains in critical, but stable condition at a local hospital.

Firefighters were able to mark the fire under control in under an hour, according to fire officials.

Chesterfield Fire and EMS also added that the fire started on the back deck of the home. However, the exact cause of the fire is still unknown as of the time of reporting.
