Maymont celebrates nearly 100 years, inviting community to share ‘Maymont Memories’
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Since opening its gates in 1926, Maymont has been a cherished Richmond landmark -- welcoming visitors with its stunning views, beautifully maintained gardens and an opulent mansion filled with historic furnishings.
As Maymont approaches its 100th anniversary, the park and museum are launching an oral history campaign to collect memories from visitors both past and present. The “Maymont Moments” project aims to gather stories, photos, videos and other personal reflections that capture what makes Maymont such a unique and beloved place.
For nearly a century, generations of Richmond residents and guests have explored Maymont’s scenic grounds and learned about its rich history.
Shared memories will become part of Maymont’s archives and may be used for research, promotional materials or during the centennial celebrations. Visitors can submit them through an online platform, sharing photos, written stories or videos from any time period and location.
Maymont invites everyone -- from longtime locals to first-time visitors -- to participate in keeping the legacy alive.
