Maymont to host Herbs Galore plant sale in April

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond’s Maymont will fill up with plants for sale and garden-related activities, which will be spread out across the Carriage House Lawn next month.

Herbs Galore will include dozens of nurseries, specialty growers and artisanal product vendors, along with live music, food vendors and activities for all ages, according to Maymont's website. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

“Herbs Galore is a perfect place for plant lovers to share their passion for gardening, whether you’re an expert gardener looking for something new or a beginner who wants to chat with experienced growers,” said Parke Richeson, Maymont President and CEO. “Come for the spring plant market, and stay for a chance to explore all that Maymont has to offer while Richmond is in peak blooming season.”

The sale will feature a plant-check area, a loading zone and an outdoor food court for visitors' convenience across Maymont's grounds. Food trucks will offer both breakfast and lunch options, including mimosas.

Maymont encourages plant lovers to bring a wagon to carry home their plants, herbs, annuals, perennials and more.

Attendees will have the chance to listen to a free audio tour of the Italian Garden as well as entry to The Robins Nature Center and access to demonstrations and talks from plant experts on the main stage.

Gardening enthusiasts can also sign up for Container Garden Workshops led by Maymont staff this spring:

  • Salad Greens -- Wednesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 20
  • Mixed Herbs -- Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24
  • Hanging Baskets -- Wednesday, May 21 and Thursday, May 22.

This marks the 40th time Maymont has hosted Herbs Galore and the 13th time the International Herb Association has selected an herb of the year, which is Chamomile in 2025.

Free parking is available at the Hampton Street entrance at 1700 Hampton Street, The Robins Nature Center at 2201 Shields Lake Drive or Maymont Farm at 1001 Spottswood Road.
