McGuire wins Virginia’s 5th Congressional District race
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Republican John McGuire defeated Democrat Gloria Witt in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District race to replace Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) in Congress, according to the Associated Press. State Sen. McGuire (R-Goochland) defeated Rep. Good in the GOP primary to get the Republican nomination and unseat Good, which was upheld after a recount. McGuire, a staunch conservative, got Trump’s endorsement during his primary challenge of Good. McGuire will eventually have to resign from the Virginia Senate, setting up a special election to fill his seat. Witt worked with a nuclear energy business for 32 years before becoming the founder and CEO of Define Success Coaching, which her campaign site says is “committed to developing executives and leaders that are known for their ability to produce defined results whether in a commercial, government, non-profit, or faith-based organizations.” The 5th District is a Republican-leaning district that stretches from Albemarle County to the North Carolina state line. It also includes Charlottesville, Goochland, Powhatan, Louisa and parts of Hanover County. All election results are unofficial until certified. This story is breaking. Check back for updates.
