Nearly 6,500 homes, businesses without power in Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Nearly 6,500 Central Virginia homes and businesses are without power on Friday afternoon due to strong wind gusts that hit the area.

As of 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 6,434 Dominion Energy homes and businesses are without power, according to the company’s outage map.

The StormTracker8 team is warning that wind gusts as high as 30 to 40 mph will continue to be possible until around dinnertime, before subsiding significantly.

There are currently outages in the following localities:

  • Chesterfield County: 3,108 homes and businesses without power
  • Henrico County: 2,301 homes and businesses without power
  • Powhatan County: 406 homes and businesses without power
  • Goochland County: 506 homes and businesses without power
  • Charles City County: 113 homes and businesses without power
