Neighbor rescues woman trapped on porch during Chesterfield house fire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A neighbor helped rescue a woman who became trapped on a porch during a house fire in Chesterfield County Tuesday evening.

At 10:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews responded to a call for a house fire in the 4800 block of Darlene Street, off of Hopkins Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames roaring from the front of the home. Crews were able to get the blaze under control within 30 minutes.

Before firefighters arrived on the scene, officials said a neighbor noticed the fire at the home and helped rescue one of two people inside.

At the time, a woman was stuck on the porch and unable to get to safety on her own, but made it out safely with assistance.

Both people who were inside the home were not injured, according to officials. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital to be treated for burns and is going to be okay.

One cat died in the house fire, officials said.

Due to the severity of the damage, the homeowners will reportedly be displaced.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
