New firehouse opens in Henrico County’s East End
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A new firehouse, Firehouse 23, has opened in Henrico County's East End.
According to the county, the firehouse, located at 5618 Nine Mile Road, began responding to calls on Wednesday, Feb. 12. It expands upon Henrico County Division of Fire's response in the county's East End.
"It provides direct support for the crews of Firehouse 6 on Laburnum Avenue to the south and Firehouse 3 on East Washington Street to the east," the county said.
The firehouse will reportedly assist firefighters' response times for more than 55,000 calls received in the county each year.

A county spokesperson said it will eventually become home to the East End's second ladder truck, which is expected to be delivered in 2027.
Construction began for the firehouse in August 2023. The project, which cost about $14.5 million, was funded as part of the 2016 Bond Referendum.
The building includes an administrative space, public and staff bathrooms and three drive-thru apparatus bays.
