New Jersey man in custody after police pursuit in Prince George, Sussex Counties
SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A New Jersey man is now in custody after a multi-county police pursuit on Interstate 95 Friday.
At around 11: 45 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, officers with the Virginia State Police were alerted of a wanted individual with possible mental health concerns traveling southbound on I-95 in Prince George County. The vehicle was approaching the Richmond area.
Troopers located the vehicle at exit 45 and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Brian L. Weiner of Toms River, New Jersey, refused to stop. Officers then initiated a pursuit.
The pursuit continued south into Sussex County, where Weiner slowed down, per officials. Multiple state police vehicles were hit by Weiner's car as troopers attempted to contain it.
The pursuit continued until the 21-mile marker, where troopers contained the incident and took Weiner into custody. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation pending charges.
No troopers were injured in the pursuit.
Virginia State Police continues to investigate the incident.
