New VCU Police chief officially sworn in

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Today, the new Chief of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police Department was sworn in.

A special swearing-in ceremony was held Monday afternoon, Feb.10, for Clarence T. Hunter, VCU Police's new chief. He brings with him three decades of experience in law enforcement.

Hunter previously served with the Richmond Police Department, Henrico County Police Division, as well as Virginia Union University, where he was deputy chief of police from 2022 to 2023.

Chief Hunter has succeeded John Venuti, who transitioned to the role of Associate Vice President of Emergency Services and Public Safety.
