Newport News man arrested for attempted capital murder of law enforcement officer in New Kent County

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Newport News man was arrested for multiple charges, including attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer in New Kent County. Thirty-five-year-old Adrian Gerard Offer, of Newport News, was arrested for multiple charges that stemmed from an incident that occurred in November in New Kent County. Offer was apprehended on Thursday, Jan. 23, by the Newport News Police Department, along with the assistance of detectives from the New Kent County Sheriff's Office. According to the New Kent County Sheriff's Office, Offer was wanted for the following charges: Attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer Felony eluding Felony destruction of property Grand larceny of an automobile Reckless driving Additional criminal charges The sheriff's office said that charges for Offer originated from a police pursuit that started in New Kent County and ended in Henrico County on Nov. 28, 2024. After the pursuit, he ran away from the scene, dodging law enforcement until they captured him recently. Offer is currently being held in custody without bond and has a pending court date at New Kent General District Court.
