No Limit Towing owner found guilty in Richmond of issuing a bad check

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Sherral Crawley, the troubled owner of No Limit Towing, was found guilty of issuing a bad check for less than $1,000 in Richmond on Wednesday.

The investigation into Crawley and her towing business began in December 2022, with the Richmond Police Department investigating claims that vehicles were being towed from unauthorized areas and customers were being overcharged.

When serving a search warrant on her business in 2023, police expanded on these allegations, stating that vehicles were being taken from private lots, then demolished or sold in violation of Virginia law. “Dozens of residents” were reportedly impacted by this conspiracy.

Crawley turned herself in to the department a few days after that search took place. Years later, she faces a swath of charges.

Crawley appeared in Richmond City General District Court at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, and was found guilty of issuing a bad check for less than $1,000. This charge was amended from her initial charge of issuing a bad check for more than or equal to $1,000.

Court records show Crawley pleaded nolo contendere, meaning she accepted her guilty conviction, but did not admit guilt. Crawley was sentenced to 12 months of unsupervised probation with 11 months suspended.

As of reporting, Crawley remained in custody for other previous charges.

Crawley faces the following seven other charges in Richmond City Circuit Court, for which she is slated to be sentenced on Sept. 5:

  • Three counts of obtaining money by false pretenses
  • Three counts of title registration fraud
  • One count of grand larceny of a motor vehicle

Days later, on Sept. 19, Crawley is set to be sentenced for the following three charges in Caroline General District Court for an incident that occurred in May:

  • Grand larceny greater than or equal to $1,000
  • Issuing a bad check less than $1,000
  • Forgery
