No Limit Towing owner pleads guilty to some of her over 20 fraud-related charges
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The owner of No Limit Towing & Recovery, who is accused of stealing cars and money from citizens over several years, pleaded guilty on Friday to some of the over 20 charges she faces.
The investigation into Sherral Crawley and her towing business began in December 2022, with the Richmond Police Department looking into claims that vehicles were being towed from unauthorized areas and customers were being overcharged.
When serving a search warrant on her business in 2023, police expanded on these allegations, stating that vehicles were being taken from private lots, then demolished or sold in violation of Virginia law. "Dozens of residents" were reportedly impacted by this conspiracy.
Crawley turned herself in to the department a few days after that search took place. Nearly two years later, a total of 23 charges are currently active against her in Richmond City Circuit Court.
On Friday, May 23, during a plea hearing, Crawley pleaded guilty to eight of those charges. Those include:
- One count of grand larceny of a motor vehicle
- Two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses
- One count of obtaining money by false pretenses, less than $1000
- Three counts of title registration fraud
- One count of petit larceny of less than $200, not from a person
Some of these above charges were amended -- or changed to a different charge -- during the judicial process, per court records. This includes the charges of title registration fraud, the petit larceny charge and the lesser obtaining money under false pretenses charge. All were originally charged as grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
On June 10, Crawley will appear in court again for sentencing on these charges, as well as a status hearing for the other 15 charges that are still pending.
