Parent tased by police after allegedly assaulting staff, officers at Chesterfield school during dismissal

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A parent has been charged after he reportedly went into Woolridge Elementary School in Chesterfield and created a "disturbance" on Wednesday during dismissal, which led to police tasing him.

During the dismissal of students at Woolridge Elementary School on Wednesday, May 28, a parent went into the building and created a "disturbance," according to a message shared with parents and guardians by a Chesterfield County Public Schools spokesperson.

The Chesterfield Police Department said it received a report of a man causing a disturbance at Woolridge Elementary School at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to police, the first officer who arrived on the scene saw two staff members attempting to restrain a man. The officer then attempted to detain the man and place him in handcuffs.

The man then reportedly fought the officer, school staff members and a fire marshal who had responded to the scene. During the struggle, the officer tased the man, who continued to struggle once the effects of the taser subsided.

Authorities said additional officers responded and were able to handcuff the suspect, who was reportedly still struggling.

According to police, further investigation revealed the man, identified as 33-year-old Justin Ansardi, was running through the parking lot when a school staff member approached him and asked if she could help. Ansardi then indicated he was at the school to pick up his student.

When school staff members escorted Ansardi to the school office, he reportedly became aggressive. Officials said school staff members attempted to calm him, but he continued to escalate and began assaulting the staff.

Staff members were able to get Ansardi out of the building, which is around the time when Chesterfield Police said officers arrived at the scene.

According to police, Ansardi was arrested and charged with two counts of assault on law enforcement, two counts of assault, as well as disorderly conduct and obstruction.

"The safety of students and staff is always our top priority," the message from the school system said. "If you have questions or concerns, please reach out directly. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.”
