Pedestrian hit, killed by car in Henrico hit-and-run
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A pedestrian is dead after they were hit by a car in a hit-and-run in Henrico County early Friday morning.
Troopers with the Virginia State Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 95 southbound near the 86-mile marker, just after 12:30 a.m. on Friday, June 27.
An initial investigation shows that a vehicle traveling northbound on I-95 ran out of gas and stopped on the right shoulder.
Two people crossed the interstate and began walking on the center median. They then crossed the center median and began walking north along I-95 southbound, according to state police.
Officials said that while the two people were walking, one was hit by an unknown vehicle.
"The other occupant then pulled the injured person out of the travel lanes into the center median, and returned to the vehicle," state police said.
The person who was injured died at the scene. Police have now identified the victim as 39-year-old Charles Mauck of Spotsylvania County.
According to police, there is no description of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian at this time.
