Person arrested after traffic stop of reported stolen vehicle leads to pursuit, crash in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police arrested a person Friday night after an attempted traffic stop of a reported stolen vehicle led to a pursuit and then a crash in Richmond.

At around 8:25 p.m. on Friday, March 21, Virginia State Police troopers attempted a traffic stop on a 2024 Jeep, which state police said was reported stolen out of Richmond the day prior.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as Brittany Nicole Johnson, of Richmond, reportedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated by Virginia State Police.

According to officials, Johnson ran a red light while driving eastbound on Semmes Avenue and was hit by a 2018 Mazda driving northbound on Cowardin Avenue about ten minutes after the pursuit was initiated.

State police said both vehicles sustained heavy damage, but neither of the drivers were taken to the hospital for injuries.

Johnson was then arrested without incident and charges are pending, according to authorities.
