Person detained after domestic-related Albemarle shooting that critically injured one woman

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- One person was detained following a domestic-related shooting that critically injured one woman in Albemarle County on Thursday morning.
At about 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, officers with the Albemarle County Police Department and crews with the Albemarle County Fire Rescue were called to the 800 block of Mallside Forest Court following reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to UVA Health in critical condition, according to police.
At about 4:15 a.m. on Thursday, the Albemarle County Police Department detained a suspect.
According to a preliminary investigation, officers believe that the woman and the suspect knew each other, and the incident is believed to be domestic in nature.
Police continue to investigate.
