Person hit, killed by AMTRAK passenger train in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A person is dead after they were hit by an AMTRAK passenger train in Henrico County on Thursday.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, officers with the Henrico County Police Division were called to railroad tracks in the area of Old Washington Highway and Mountain Road for report of a pedestrian hit by a train.

According to police, an AMTRAK train was carrying passengers northbound when it hit the pedestrian. That pedestrian, who was not identified by authorities, died due to their injuries.

Detectives with the Henrico Police Criminal Investigative Section (SIC) were called to the scene.

A police spokesperson told 8News that he could not share any details as to why the pedestrian was on the railroad tracks at the time of the crash.

CSX shut down the tracks for some time as police investigated the scene, but that closure has since been lifted.
