Man dies after being hit by two vehicles at Chesterfield intersection

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man is dead after police said he was hit by two vehicles at an intersection in Chesterfield County on Monday morning.

In the morning on Monday, March 23, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department responded to the intersection of Newbys Bridge Road and Newbys Mill Drive for a report of a crash that had occurred at 5:21 a.m., with injuries.

When officers arrived, they reportedly determined that a man with a bicycle was spotted lying down in the roadway.

When a passerby went to check on the man, officials said that two vehicles heading south on Newbys Bridge Road had hit him.

The passerby was not hit but was a witness to the crash, according to police.

Police said that while it was unknown how he came to be lying on the ground, they believe the man was riding his bicycle before he was hit.

The drivers of the involved vehicles reportedly remained on scene and were cooperative.

The man was taken by Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews to a local hospital, where police said he was later pronounced dead. He has not yet been identified.

Officials continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Chesterfield County Police at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660 or through the P3 app.
