Person shot dead in Emporia home
EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) -- A person was shot dead inside an Emporia home Thursday afternoon.
Just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, officers with the Emporia Police Department were called to the area of Southampton Street for report of shots fired.
When they arrived, officers entered a home in the 500 block of Southampton Street and found an adult victim with a gunshot wound. They died at the scene.
According to police, a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with this homicide investigation.
Authorities did not identify the victim or the suspect.
"Based on information available at this time, there is no ongoing threat to the public," police said.

No further details are available as of the time of reporting.
"The Emporia Police Department is receiving investigative assistance from the Virginia State Police and is coordinating closely with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office," police said. "This investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as appropriate as the investigation progresses."
