Petersburg City Public Schools to host CPR training, ribbon cutting for medical classroom

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Petersburg City Public Schools is partnering with HCA Virginia to host two student events focusing on CPR training and healthcare education on Wednesday, April 23.

From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Petersburg High School, the Partnership for Petersburg, Petersburg City Public Schools, the Petersburg Health Department, HCA Virginia and Petersburg Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services will provide hands-only CPR training to students and offer additional education on health-related topics and career opportunities in the health and public services fields.

Next door, at Vernon Johns Middle School, Communities In Schools Petersburg, HCA Virginia, and Petersburg City Public Schools will host a ribbon cutting for a new medical classroom aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for middle school students interested in pursuing careers in the medical field.

According to HCA Virginia, the medical classroom will "simulate real-world medical environments, incorporating advanced medical technology, anatomy models and interactive learning tools."

Students, faculty and community members attending the launch event will be able to tour the facility, see demonstrations and learn more about programs being offered.

The initiative is funded in part by a $25,000 grant to Communities in Schools of Petersburg from the HCA Healthcare Foundation’s Healthier Tomorrow Fund.
