Petersburg man found guilty of 2022 homicide in Hopewell
HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- A Petersburg man charged with the murder of another man in Hopewell has been found guilty nearly two and a half years after the shooting took place. According to the Hopewell Police Department, 27-year-old Jerrell Armani Crawley of Petersburg was found guilty of second-degree murder on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in connection to the shooting death of 27-year-old Deanthony Davis of Petersburg in May 2022. At around 11:40 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022, Hopewell Police officers responded to the 600 block of Winston Churchill Drive after gunshots were reported in the area. Once they arrived, officers found Davis, who had been shot several times, lying on the ground in a parking lot. He died at the scene. On Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023 -- over a year after the shooting -- Crawley was arrested and indicted on one count of second-degree murder. He had been identified as a person of interest in connection to Davis' death in July 2022.
