Petersburg police offer safety tips after multiple vehicle break-ins, larcenies

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The Petersburg Bureau of Police is offering tips to help residents protect themselves after multiple vehicle break-ins and larcenies.
According to a social post from police, a series of vehicle break-ins and larcenies have occurred in the Westover Avenue and Stainback Street area of the city.
"These vehicle break-ins and larcenies are currently under investigation," the social post reads.
Police are urging community members to do the following:
- Always lock your doors and close your windows
- Never leave valuables in plain sight
- Park in well-lit and secure areas
- Report suspicious activity to police
"Our vigilance can make a difference in our community, lock your doors," the social post reads. "Stay alert. Spread awareness."
Police said officers are increasing patrols in those affected areas and will offer community workshops and resources.
