PHOTOS: 39th annual Church Hill Irish Festival in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The 39th annual Church Hill Irish Festival kicked off in Richmond on Saturday with a parade, live music and more.

People gathered at 25th and Broad Street in Richmond on Saturday, March 15 starting at 10 a.m. in front of St. Patrick Catholic Church to enjoy traditional Irish music, vendors, food and Guinness.

For those eager to join the fun, there are also several dancing and singing performances taking place on Saturday and Sunday -- full schedules of expected artists can be found by visiting the event's Facebook page.

For those that are more athletically inclined, make sure to check out the Hill Topper 5k taking place at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 16.

8News got the chance to speak with Claire and Rainer Schlichtherle, two attendees that have been coming out to the festival for several years, about their favorite parts of the event.

"I'd say just watching the people having a good time," Rainer said.

"Yeah, having a good time... watching the cultural aspect of it, and a good couple drinks! A couple good drinks," Claire added.
